- Therapeutic and diagnostic applications of enzymes and isoenzymes; factors affecting enzyme activity
- Digestion and absorption of dietary macro- and micronutrients including vitamins and minerals; biochemical functions of vitamins and associated diseases
- Clinical chemistry: liver function tests; renal function tests; ELISA test

Carbohydrate Metabolism and Bioenergetics10 Hours- Introduction to biomolecules: carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids, amino acids, and proteins
- Bioenergetics: free energy, enthalpy, entropy; redox potential; energy-rich compounds (ATP, GTP) and biological significance
- Carbohydrate metabolism: glycolysis, TCA cycle, gluconeogenesis, HMP shunt, glycogen metabolism; regulation of blood glucose; metabolic adaptations in fed state, fasting, starvation
- Metabolic derangements in diabetes mellitus; Electron Transport Chain (ETC), oxidative phosphorylation, ATP synthesis

- β-oxidation and de-novo synthesis of fatty acids; ketone bodies: synthesis, utilization, and clinical significance
- Biological significance of cholesterol and lipid profile; disorders: hyperlipidaemias, hypercholesterolaemia, lipid storage diseases, atherosclerosis, fatty liver disease, obesity

Amino Acid and Protein Metabolism10 Hours- Classification and biological functions of amino acids; structure and functions of proteins and plasma proteins
- General metabolism: transamination, oxidative and non-oxidative deamination, decarboxylation; urea cycle — nitrogen disposal and detoxification
- Catabolism of specific amino acids; disorders: phenylketonuria, albinism, alkaptonuria, tyrosinemia, inborn errors of metabolism

Nucleic Acid Metabolism and Genetic Information Transfer8 Hours- Nucleotide metabolism and related disorders: biosynthesis and catabolism of purine and pyrimidine nucleotides; hyperuricaemia, gout, Lesch-Nyhan syndrome
- DNA replication: enzymes and mechanism; transcription; translation: genetic code, ribosomes, post-translational modifications
- Recombinant DNA technology in pharmacy: restriction enzymes, cloning vectors, PCR, applications in drug production
