Autonomic Nervous System Pharmacology9 Hours
  • ANS overview: sympathetic and parasympathetic divisions; neurotransmission (ACh, noradrenaline); receptors (nicotinic, muscarinic, α, β)
  • Cholinergic drugs: muscarinic agonists (pilocarpine, bethanechol), anticholinesterases (neostigmine, physostigmine, organophosphates), nicotinic agonists; clinical applications and toxicology
  • Adrenergic drugs: catecholamines (adrenaline, noradrenaline, dopamine), sympathomimetics (salbutamol, phenylephrine); alpha and beta blockers — pharmacology and clinical uses

CNS Pharmacology9 Hours
  • Sedatives and anxiolytics: benzodiazepines, buspirone, barbiturates — mechanisms and clinical uses
  • Antiepileptic drugs: phenytoin, carbamazepine, valproic acid, levetiracetam, lamotrigine — mechanisms, uses, side effects
  • Anti-Parkinson drugs: levodopa, carbidopa, dopamine agonists (pramipexole, ropinirole), MAO-B inhibitors (selegiline), COMT inhibitors; anticholinergics

Cardiovascular Pharmacology9 Hours
  • Antihypertensives: diuretics, ACE inhibitors, ARBs, calcium channel blockers, beta-blockers, vasodilators — mechanisms, therapeutic uses, adverse effects, drug interactions
  • Diuretics: thiazides, loop diuretics (furosemide), potassium-sparing diuretics — mechanisms, pharmacokinetics, clinical uses
  • Cardiac glycosides (digoxin): mechanism, pharmacokinetics, therapeutic uses, toxicity, drug interactions; antiarrhythmics: classes I-IV

Gastrointestinal Pharmacology9 Hours
  • Antacids and antiulcer drugs: antacids, H2 receptor antagonists (cimetidine, ranitidine), proton pump inhibitors (omeprazole, pantoprazole), H. pylori eradication regimens
  • Prokinetics and antiemetics: metoclopramide, domperidone, ondansetron, aprepitant — mechanisms and uses; antiemetics in chemotherapy
  • Laxatives and antidiarrhoeal drugs: osmotic (lactulose), stimulant (senna, bisacodyl), bulk-forming (ispaghula); loperamide, oral rehydration therapy

Respiratory Pharmacology9 Hours
  • Bronchodilators: β2-agonists (salbutamol, salmeterol — short and long-acting), methylxanthines (theophylline, aminophylline), anticholinergics (ipratropium, tiotropium) — mechanisms and clinical uses
  • Anti-inflammatory drugs in asthma and COPD: corticosteroids (inhaled and systemic), leukotriene antagonists (montelukast), cromoglycates; stepwise management of asthma
  • Antitussives, expectorants, mucolytics: codeine, dextromethorphan; guaifenesin; acetylcysteine, ambroxol — mechanisms and uses
